Experience the vibrant energy and rich ceremony of a Japanese festival in Nihonbashi.
Don a traditional hanten coat and prepare to shoulder a mikoshi float during a parade for Fukutoku Shrine’s Shinkosai Festival.
A limited number of Members are invited to join this annual festival as representatives of Nihonbashi Muromachi Mitsui Tower.
Member Geoff Kamizuru-Bowman is part of a subcommittee dedicated to fostering ties between the Nihonbashi Club and the local community.
“We’re really getting in deeper and deeper with the local community,” he says. “It’s a win-win. Nihonbashi wants to get the message about its history out to the world, which is unknown to some people, and Members want to know about this history.”
Fukutoku Shrine, located near Coredo Muromachi shopping center, was once made up of buildings covering a large area in Fukutoku village. There are records of the shrine dating back more than 1,000 years.
