What will the students learn in this class?
Students learn the skills and knowledge necessary to advance in Shotokan karate, one of the four major styles of the martial art.
This class introduces the basic stances, techniques and sequences of karate in a traditional training environment. While training is rigorous, it can be tailored to any fitness level. Parents and their children are encouraged to participate together.

What are the benefits of this class?
Through an organized training regimen, students develop physical strength, coordination, stamina, self-confidence and self-discipline. Students apply karate etiquette throughout regular practice.
Who teaches the class?
Tim Neely is a fifth-degree black belt with nearly 40 years of training and teaching experience in Shotokan karate. Before training in karate at the Kenkojuku Budokan in Tokyo in the 1980s, he was an Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Golden Gloves boxer and coach in the United States. The Club Member is also trained in kendo (second degree) and Tenjin Shinyo-ryu jujutsu (first degree).
